Linville runs wild as Bulldogs take down RangersAs a steady rain continued to fall at Charles A. Harding Memorial Stadium, the Lakewood Rangers found themselves facing an uphill battle against a formidable combination.

Wet field conditions, the triple threat option attack of Olmsted Falls and Spencer Linville.

Linville, the Bulldogs' junior running back, racked up 265 yards rushing and scored four touchdowns on the night as the home team prevailed, 35-10, Friday night in a Southwestern Conference matchup.

With the loss, Lakewood dropped to 0-3 on the season and 0-2 in its inaugural SWC season. Olmsted Falls moved to 3-0 and 2-0 in the conference as Linville continued to carry the load with 43 carries on the night. "He's been doing a great job for us so far...

Epps erupts, Titans down Rangers in SWC opener
Epps erupts, Titans down Rangers in SWC openerDespite key mistakes early on, the Lakewood Rangers were right where they wanted to be Friday night against defending Southwestern Conference champion Berea-Midpark. Down 13-7, they were controlling the tempo and slowing down the Titans' potent offense.

But as the game moved along, they could find no answer for Shawn Epps.

Epps, Berea-Midpark's senior tailback, went off for 120 yards in the half and helped ignite a 21-0 Titans run. When it was all said and done, Epps and the Titans had earned a 34-13 win over the Rangers in the SWC opener for both teams...

Missed opportunities costly for Rangers in opener
Missed opportunities costly for Rangers in openerThroughout the first quarter and a half of football, Lakewood was playing Medina on relatively even terms. The Bees, despite having an early 14-0 lead, were shooting themselves in the foot with a variety of mistakes and penalties.

But when opportunity knocked, the Rangers were unable to answer. And it cost them big time.

The Battling Bees, behind the rushing performance of Jimmy Daw, got their act together and began to generate opportunities of their own. When the smoke had cleared, Medina had come away with a convincing 56-13 win over the Rangers in the 2015 season opener...

Titans' defense shuts out Rangers in SWC opener
Titans' defense shuts out Rangers in SWC openerAs Berea-Midpark opened defense of its Southwestern Conference soccer championship, one thing stood out as the match against Lakewood played on.

These Titans are going to do it with defense.

That defense held Lakewood's scoring opportunities to a minimum and helped generate the only goal the visitors would need. The end result was a 2-0 win over the Rangers Wednesday night at First Federal Lakewood Stadium in the SWC opener for both teams.

"Our team defense eliminates a lot of threats before they reach our last option, which is our keeper," said Berea-Midpark head coach...

Mustangs looking ahead after first varsity season
Mustangs looking ahead after first varsity seasonOn the surface, a final record of 5-10 might not seem like something to celebrate.

But in retrospect, the Strongsville boys lacrosse team will surely look back at the 2015 season with a sense of accomplishment.

The Mustangs took a huge step this past season, competing for the first time as an official varsity team. The program was promoted from club status a year ago thanks to a vote of the Strongsville School Board.

Former club team assistant coach Adam Wiggins was named head coach, and the Mustangs embarked on their new journey. "It was pretty monumental to come under the wing of...
