Softball '15: Bulldogs top Shoregals, tourney nextOn Monday, the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs defeated Avon Lake, 4-1, in a Southwestern Conference fastpitch softball matchup.

Now, both teams can turn their attention to the OHSAA Tournament. In fact, all area teams enter tournament play this week.

Lacrosse '15: Mustang boys push past Blue DevilsIt was a big week for the Strongsville boys lacrosse team.

In the midst of an eight-game losing streak, the Mustangs broke back into the win column to start the week with a 17-7 win over Cleveland Heights. Then on Thursday, they edged arch rival Brunswick, 13-12, at Pat Catan Stadium to raise their season record to 4-8.

Demons get past Titans to extend winning streakThe Westlake softball team kept its recent hot streak going this week with a 4-2 win over visiting Berea-Midpark in Southwestern Conference action.

The Demons extended their win streak to nine games and improved to 8-2 in the SWC with two games remaining in conference play. Westlake was coming off back-to-back shutout wins, 2-0 over Amherst and 12-0 over Avon Lake in five innings.

Lacrosse '15: Bees, Shoregals battle to a 7-7 drawWith the girls lacrosse season coming down the stretch, a number of area teams are vying for spots in the Ohio Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association post season tournament.

The Avon Lake Shoregals, which had won seven straight games, hit a bump in the road Friday night as they battled to a 7-7 draw with Brecksville at Memorial Stadium. It didn't get any easier for head coach Darci Gervaise's squad as they were scheduled for a road game with Rocky River Saturday night.

The 11-2 Pirates were ranked No. 17 overall in Ohio and were in second place in the OSLA Division 2 North.

Track & Field '15: Area girls' top times, distancesAs a new feature this spring, we are going to compile the top times and distances for our area's track and field athletes.

We debut with some of the numbers put up by the girls at recent relays and invitationals, including the Ranger Relays in Lakewood and the Comet Relays in Amherst. We also realize this list is probably missing some pretty good performances this spring, so we welcome input from track and field head coaches in the Westshore and Southern Hills areas.

Lacrosse '15: Devils bounce back, rally past 'DogsAfter seeing their six-game win streak fall by the wayside, the Brunswick boys lacrosse team bounced back in a big way earlier this week.

On Monday, the Blue Devils brushed aside back-to-back losses to Walsh Jesuit and Sylvania Northview. They hosted Olmsted Falls and produced a convincing 12-6 win over the Bulldogs to move to 7-2 on the season.

Noah Smith and John Cellura were the big guns as Brunswick rallied from a 4-1 first quarter deficit. Both players scored hat tricks with their three-goal outbursts, while dishing out one assist each.
