Football '14: Choat makes a big impression in IndyOften times, a kid is just excited to be part of the experience. When a coach gets to share in things, it can be a dynamic few get a chance to take part in.

Chris Medaglia, who coached the Browns team at the NFL High School Player Development 7-on-7 national tournament for the sixth straight year, had the chance to see things through Gerett Choat's eyes and came away very impressed by the Avon wide receiver.

Football '14: Laird prepared for Mustang challenge
Football '14: Laird prepared for Mustang challengeThe adage around coaching circles when taking over programs is you want to be the man that replaced the man that replaced the legend, not follow the legend.

Larry Laird doesn't know how to do that.

In taking over as the head coach for Strongsville's football team, Laird follows Russ Jacques.

All-Star Notes: Muldoon, Smith to team up this fallFor Berea-Midpark's Mason Muldoon, the 42nd annual East-West Cuyahoga County All-Star Game was old hat. For North Royalton's Austin Smith, it was brand new. In the fall, the two will merge as one as freshmen on Baldwin-Wallace's football team.

Muldoon, who has played his high school career at BW's George Finnie Stadium, knows every hash mark of the turf. Friday night, the defensive end was there Friday to help his future running back, who was playing in Berea for the first time.

"I told him it's quick, doesn't feel good when you fall, but it's good running," said Muldoon, who registered six tackles. "I told him 'Let's see if you can keep up with me.'"

While the tandem's West squad couldn't keep up...

Fourth-quarter rally falls short as East bests West
Fourth-quarter rally falls short as East bests WestWith 9:46 left in the game and his team trailing 14-7, North Olmsted quarterback Brad Novak found himself in familiar territory.

During the regular season, Novak and his Eagles had been involved in a number of close games that came down to the final minutes. On a cool Friday night in Berea, Novak drove the West All-Stars all the way down to the East 23-yard line as the Finnie Stadium clock ticked down to under five minutes remaining.

As he had in the first quarter, he looked for Cuyahoga Heights' Jack Alpert in the end zone. Novak's pass nearly found its mark, but Beachwood's Julio Stevens closed in to knock it away at the last minute and...
