This wasn’t the way Westlake envisioned its 2013 season beginning.
North Ridgeville, 1-9 last season, jumped out to a 28-0 first-half lead and held on in the second half to top the Demons, 34-21, Friday night on the Rangers’ home turf. Doing most of the damage was Demario McCall, who scored four touchdowns and ran the ball 25 times for 170 yards.
Westlake did not score until a botched Ranger punt produced a safety with 5:39 left in the first half. After a 60-yard kick return by Nick Moracz, quarterback Kent Axcell hit Paul Angala for a 1-yard touchdown to make it 28-9 by halftime.
In the second half, Axcell hit on a pair of touchdown passes, one a 64-yarder to Adam Sandor in the third quarter. But the Rangers iced the win in between those scores with a 9-yard scoring pass from Logan Armano to Matt Feierabend in the third quarter.
