Pirates edge Rockets, lose to Warriors in tourneyThe 2015 boys lacrosse season officially came to a close this week for the Bay Rockets and the Rocky River Pirates.

Bay, which had reached the .500 mark to close out the regular season, ended its season in season Wednesday night. In the first round of the OHSLA Tournament, the Rockets dropped a narrow 10-9 loss to Rocky River at Memorial Stadium to finish their season at 6-7.

River girls top Ottawa Hills in OT, advance to stateNeedless to say, it's been quite a week for the Rocky River girls lacrosse team:

The red-hot Pirates are on their way to state!

Rocky River defeated Walsh Jesuit, 9-4, on Monday in a an OSLA regional semifinal game. Then on Thursday night, the Pirates scored the winning goal with 5:15 left in overtime to defeat previously undefeated Ottawa Hills, 8-7, for the right to advance to next week's state semifinal game at Upper Arlington High School.

The Pirates, now 17-2, have won 13 straight games since a 14-8 loss at Chagrin Falls back on April 13. If all goes well, the two teams could meet again for the state championship. The Tigers are still in the hunt for a...

Lacrosse '15: Demons top Pirates, tourney beginsWith the 2015 regular season completed, the area's boys lacrosse teams will begin OHSLA Tournament play this week.

Westlake gets a first round bye after defeating Rocky River, 8-4, last Friday night at Rocky River Stadium. The Demons will host the winner of Wednesday night's matchup between Avon Lake and Lake Catholic in Division 2 action. Friday night's game at Read Field is slated for 7 p.m.

Rocky River, which finished the regular season at 3-11, will travel to Bay for the second time this season on Wednesday night. The Rockets, who fell to the Pirates 7-5 back on April 15, reached...

Bulldogs top Rangers, advance to district tourneyThrough the first five innings, it was anybody's ballgame as Lakewood and Olmsted Falls battled for a Division I sectional championship.

With one swing of the bat, Collin Romel changed all that.

Romel belted a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning, his third hit of the game, to power the visiting Bulldogs to a 9-2 win over the Rangers. It was his second home run of the season and pushed his RBI total to 22 on the season.

Softball '15: Bulldogs top Shoregals, tourney nextOn Monday, the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs defeated Avon Lake, 4-1, in a Southwestern Conference fastpitch softball matchup.

Now, both teams can turn their attention to the OHSAA Tournament. In fact, all area teams enter tournament play this week.

Demons get past Titans to extend winning streakThe Westlake softball team kept its recent hot streak going this week with a 4-2 win over visiting Berea-Midpark in Southwestern Conference action.

The Demons extended their win streak to nine games and improved to 8-2 in the SWC with two games remaining in conference play. Westlake was coming off back-to-back shutout wins, 2-0 over Amherst and 12-0 over Avon Lake in five innings.

Lacrosse '15: Demons, Pirates take on tough foesAs the boys lacrosse season nears its conclusion, area teams are finding some big challenges ahead of them.

There were important matchups for both Rocky River and Westlake this week, with both the Pirates and the Demons facing a pair of conference leaders in OHSLA play. And in both games, the both Hudson and Chagrin Falls showed why they will be formidable opponents in the upcoming playoffs.
