Westlake's No. 1 Fan bids adieu with state sendoff
It was the end of an era at Westlake High School Thursday afternoon.
Westlake’s No. 1 Fan, Chad Dilillo, was given the school’s traditional State Sendoff as he prepared to leave for the next chapter in his life. After a trip to Florida where his family has a home, he will begin a job with Bridges, according to athletic director Tony Cippolone in a press release.
In honor of Chad’s departure, the school conducted a State Sendoff, a longtime Westlake tradition reserved for a team or individual athlete who qualifies for an OHSAA championship. The marching band and the cheerleaders lead the honorees throughout every hallway...

A Sporting Viewpoint: Welcome back for Season II
While out on a walk late last week, I made my way over to Westlake High School and took a few laps around the track at Lou Duchez Field.
It was very quiet and peaceful there that day. I stopped for a moment near the south end zone and chuckled. I knew that serenity wasn\'t going to last much longer.
In a few weeks, the Demons will be hosting North Ridgeville to kick off the 2012 high school football season. Already this week, football teams throughout Ohio are participating in two-a-days getting prepared for opening night on Aug. 24.
All the fall sport athletes are gearing up for the new season. In fact on Monday morning, I saw a number of Westlake cross country runners as they were getting their road work in. Official...

A Sporting Viewpoint: A new SWC-WSC solution
The bulldozer that tore into the landscape of Division I collegiate athletics was a hot topic in 2011. A number of universities, not wanting to wait until they were left behind, severed longtime conference affiliations and flocked to greener pastures.
And if you took the adjective \"greener\" in a monetary sense, we\'re definitely on the same wavelength.
As the 2011-12 high school sports season passes the halfway mark, many fans, coaches and administrators are talking - privately, if not publicly - about similar changes at the high school level. The ever-changing demographics...

New foundation aims to improve Westlake's fields
Could the days of wet, muddy field conditions at Westlake’s Lou Duchez Field become a thing of the past?
It could happen in the very near future if a newly-formed citizens group has anything to say about it.
A private group of Westlake citizens has formed a new non-profit foundation dedicated to raising private money which would fund upgrades to the district’s outdoor athletic facilities. The new Westlake Athletic Development Foundation has taken on this project, which would include field turf installation at Duchez, along with...
