Golf '14: Medina girls make return to state tourney|
Patience and perseverance were the words of the day last week for Medina\'s girls golf team during its state-qualifying round at the Massillon Division I District.
Because the Bees were able to adhere the words of second-year coach Mickey McGrath, they will head to Columbus on Friday and Saturday and erase a lengthy absence from the state tournament.
While individuals have made the trek down Interstate 71 South in years past, Medina, as a team, hasn\'t played at state...
Bees return to the top, win NOC tournament crown|
Medina\'s boys golf team wanted to make sure it left the Northeast Ohio Conference Valley Division exactly the way it started it.
Champions of the NOC every year but two, 2008 and 2013, the Bees knew it would take a long shot to unseat Hudson in the overall standings. That didn\'t mean they couldn\'t make a statement Monday at the league tournament.
And that\'s exactly what Medina did in posting a team score of 305 to walk away with the tournament by shooting its lowest score of the season at Silver Lakes Country Club.
\"It feels really good,\" Evan Schreck said. \"We had a couple off-days in matches. It came down to the wire, it really meant something to come out...
Golf '14: Experienced Titans ready for Sweetbriar|
Berea-Midpark\'s boys golf team knows what it\'s up against in two weeks, but the Titans are ready.
A loaded field waits for the squad at the Sweetbriar Division I Sectional where a senior-laden team hopes it can pull together and advance against the likes of St. Edward, St. Ignatius, Padua and North Royalton, which all advanced to district last season.
Throw in a very game Brecksville-Broadview Heights team, and it\'s an uphill climb from the start. But it\'s a climb Berea-Midpark coach Chris Eckert thinks the team can make.
\"That\'s something they\'ve talked about all season,\" he said. \"They\'ve been waiting for this year...
Golf '14: Brecksville boys poised for special year|
Brecksville-Broadview Heights boys golf coach Tom Mulhall knew he had something special a year ago when the Bees finished sixth at a loaded Sweetbriar Division I Sectional. That tournament field was filled with teams like St. Ignatius, St. Edward, Strongsville and Rocky River in the mix.
What he\'s seen so far in 2014 has him smiling at the possibility of a late season run. \"I think they\'re a little bit ahead of schedule actually...
Golf '14: Medina girls ready to defend NOC crown|
Bad news for the Northeast Ohio Conference: Medina\'s girls golf team isn\'t missing a beat despite losing state qualifier Mindy Herrick, who transferred to a school in Florida, and Amanda Rom, who graduated.
With the emergence of freshman Alyssa Drehs, the Northern Ohio PGA Junior Tour Player of the Year in the 13-15 age group, the Bees have picked up right where they left off.
The squad has logged third-place finishes in the Lady Rider, Medina, Ashland and Walsh Jesuit Invitationals. It also finished second at the Padua Invitational.
By putting itself in one meatgrinder after another, Medina has readied itself to defend its NOC Valley title for the third season in a row. Drehs has led the team in scoring in two of the five tournaments and finished second three times at the Lady Rider Invitational, Ashland Invitational and Walsh Invitational. The freshman is averaging 83.4 and has shot in the 70s twice. Throw out a 91 at the Walsh Invitational, and two strokes...
